Historical Facts
The name of Clair is associated with the coming of the railroad: the old Témiscouata Railway. The land on which the train station was built, in 1890, belonged to Thomas Clair. The station was named “Clair’s”. Thomas Clair’s grandparents were from the Bay of Shannon, Clare County, in Ireland. They immigrated to Canada in 1840.
Like other villages in the region, this community grew on the banks of the St. John river. At one time, this small hub was very busy.
Border village, it is the only New Brunswick port of entry from the United States, west of Edmundston.

Did you know that you can visit several buildings in their original 1848 construction like the Daigle-Saint-Jean house which offers a museum displaying life as it used to be a century ago? On the same site, there is a small wooden church with religious relics of the past. A barn has been transformed into an agricultural museum, recalling the rigorous daily life of the farmers of long ago.
