Mural arts of Edmundston; Inspiration for All

As an artist - doing their best! - I have great admiration for creators courageous enough to display their works for all to see. Every time I pass through downtown, I take a moment to admire the work of the artists who have left their mark on the walls of our businesses. The aesthetics vary so much from one mural to another, and their creators are just as diverse.

Unfortunately, their work is too often undervalued. Many people don't see the hours of practice, research, and frustration behind each piece of art that can be seen around us. I want to salute these talented minds and encourage them in their quest for inspiration.

Regarding downtown Edmundston, nine murals can be spotted if you wish to turn your cultural walk into a treasure hunt. Many of these murals were produced by one local artist in particular: Steve Rousselle, the man behind 'SR Art Studio.' Not only is he responsible for several works outside the downtown area, but he has recently created stunning pieces in the hallways of schools in the region, in addition to allowing students attending these institutions to participate in their creation.

You'll notice that some other murals downtown aren’t attributed to SR Studio. These are most likely the murals painted as part of the Inspire festival that took place in 2022. These artworks were conceived and executed by various invited artists from all over the world. It was during the festival that I had the opportunity to become an apprentice muralist for a few weeks when the Arts Center offered its students' assistance.

There is a sense of pride when passing by these murals to which we dedicated a few hours of our time. We've beautified our little corner of the world in our way. And if you wish, you can contribute as well when the opportunity arises. A little volunteering here and there makes a big difference in the long run.

We have more information about our arts at the Visitor Information Center of Edmundston if you'd prefer to get a clearer idea of your journey through the downtown area. Please don't hesitate to visit us and leave our beautiful historic train station with more knowledge about the arts scattered all over our lovely little town.

Looking forward to sharing more with you,

Merry meet again!
